Vaginal Microbiota Transplantation

What is VMT?

The vaginal microbiome is the community of bacteria in the vagina. A normal, healthy vaginal microbiome keeps the pH low, helps to prevent conditions like bacterial vaginosis (BV), and creates an environment where becoming pregnant and carrying a baby to term are more likely to occur.

When the vaginal microbiome is disrupted, things like diet, lifestyle, probiotics, antibiotics, and pH-changing agents can often help it get back on track.

But not always.

Intractable vaginal microbiome disruption (also called vaginal dysbiosis), may respond to the implantation of healthy vaginal microbes from a carefully screened donor: vaginal microbiota transplantation, or VMT!
